NEW YORK (AP) - Robbie Grossman snapped a seventh-inning tie with a two-run single that sent the Houston Astros to a 5-2 victory last night. The Astros did more damage to New York's playoff chances with their fourth victory in five meetings this season. Houston has finished with the worst record in the majors each of the past three years.
MIAMI (AP) - Nick Martinez allowed two runs over six innings in his homecoming as the Texas Rangers roughed up Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi early on the way to a 5-4 win over the Marlins yesterday. Leonys Martin had three hits for Texas. Eovaldi gave up nine hits and five runs in five innings.
IRVING, Texas (AP) - Rolando McClain practices one day and doesn't the next for the Dallas Cowboys. The former top 10 pick at linebacker has a recent history of walking away from the game, and came out of retirement to try to help Dallas replace Sean Lee after a season-ending knee injury. Skipping workouts with leg cramps has raised more questions about his desire.
(AP) - A person close to the situation says Minnesota's Maya Moore has won the WNBA most valuable player award. The person says Moore will receive the award tonight in Minnesota before the Lynx face San Antonio in the first game of the Western Conference semifinals. Phoenix's Diana Taurasi finished second and Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry was third.
