GOODRICH, Texas (AP) - Texas authorities are working to clear more than a dozen marijuana fields found in the eastern part of the state. The Polk County Sheriff's Office says more than 44,000 plants had been cleared as of yesterday. The operation was discovered on Saturday when a deer hunter stumbled across the fields.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - A newly built $1 million skate park in Arlington will be temporarily closed while city workers clean up graffiti. City employees say they discovered extensive damages yesterday morning. The Parks and Recreation director says it will likely cost more than $1,000 to clean. The closure is expected to last at least two weeks.
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas school board has ordered a trustee to attended training after parents and teachers said he used his position to get his daughter onto a cheerleading team. Mayhew says his daughter was told in April she didn't score high enough to make her high school's team. Mayhew says he obtained records showing she did make the cut and discussed them with the superintendent.
HOUSTON (AP) - An artist whose works have become a familiar part of Houston's visual arts scene has received the 2013 National Medal of Arts. President Barack Obama presented James Turrell with one of the 12 arts awards bestowed in a ceremony yesterday in the East Room of the White House. Turrell's visual art manipulates light and space in ways that force viewers to question reality.
