WebXtra: Another protest over Confederate flag in Anderson Co.

Posted: Updated:

PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) - Close to 50 protestors waving the Confederate flag and holding signs that read 'heritage not hate' are gathered on the Anderson County Courthouse Lawn.

They say they are protesting for freedom. The youngest protestor is a fourth grade boy waving the third national Confederate flag. His name is William Peeler of Palestine and he says he does not pledge allegiance to the American flag.

"It's a bad flag. Under that flag, the Yankees killed southerners," said Peeler, who's standing beside his father.

Around 11:15 am, several verbal disputes broke out between the protestors and County Commissioner Rashad Mims.

Right now, the protest is calm, but deputies are still on scene surrounding the courthouse lawn.
