Bullard mom creates I-Phone app

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TEXAS (KLTV) - Penny Johnson said she doesn't even have an iPhone, but that didn't stop her from jumping on the chance to create an app for that (get it).

"I'm very organized," she said.

Penny created Chore Piggy, the iPhone app which helps parents keep track of their kids' chores using a chore chart and piggy bank. But Penny said, more importantly, it the app helps parents keep tabs of all those times kids ask their parents for cash.

Penny said she's heard countless stories from in-laws and friends describing trips to the store with their children who didn't bring any money. Penny said most parents never get that money back.

So Penny Googled, "how to make an iPhone app". She came across a developer and drew her idea out on paper.

"Every step of the way, he'd send me something to approve, and I'd say, yes or no, let's change this," said Penny.

A few weeks later, Chore Piggy has been downloaded twice in Australia, once from Kuwait, and 10 times in the United States.

Once the app is downloaded, parents can add their children's names and assign their corresponding chores.

Each chore gets assigned an amount of money. When each chore is done, the app allows parents to check it off, which adds money to the piggy-bank. When chores are not done, money is subtracted from the bank.

The bank is instantly updated, and Penny said kids also learn valuable life lessons.

"If I don't spend my money today, it can grow and I can save more for this thing that I really want," she said.

She said she looks forward to using the app, herself-- once she gets an iPhone.
