TYLER, TX (KLTV) - No one says you have to break the bank to get your children ready for the new school year. Now, there plenty of ways to save money.

Obviously you can go to sales and consignment stores. But, did you know there are websites designed to help you get the most bang for your buck? Often, you spend no money at all!

Laura Jenz says this time of year can be hectic, but the mom of three has found a way to tame her spending when it comes to back to school shopping.

"I haven't spent any of my own money on clothing for a whole year, and I have some friends that spend $600 or $700 on a kid," said Jenz. "I just can't believe they don't know how to do it in a such inexpensive way."

She scores deals for her 5- and 7-year-old at consignment sales.

"I try to make as much money selling my old things as I am going to spend,"said Jenz.

"Everyone is looking for places where you can pinch those pennies in today's economy," said Tess Murphy, the Children's Consignment Clothing sale founder, a massive consignment sale that takes place twice a year in Tyler. "With three kids, you are looking at $800 or $900 worth of retail back to school shopping. At the sale, I can generally buy that for $200."

There are sales and stores like "Mommy and Me" in Tyler, but now there are more options. A modern spin on the clothing swap business can be found on the internet.

"How it works: Find a box of clothes your children will love. You only pay for shipping. Prepare a box of clothes your child has outgrown," said Jenz.

Thredup.com is just one of the websites where users exchange clothes. You just pick a box of items in your child's size, and order it. Then, it's your turn.

"When you talk to your friends and tell them how much money you saved, they are shocked," said Jenz.

It is an even exchange that is sure to save you money or put a little back in your pocket.

If you are looking for a bargain this weekend, "Mommy and Me" in Tyler will be having a dollar sale all weekend.
