TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Tyler Junior League knows reading is fundamental. That is why, for the 15th year in a row, it is hosting a free summer reading camp.
Jeff, 'the animal guy' from Pine Cove, introduced the kids to some interesting creatures. Jeff also read the book of the day. He is one of several celebrity guests for the week who hope they can help encourage the TISD students learn to love reading.
"It's very important to keep them reading and keep words going into their little brains," said Leigh Ann Camp, the summer camp co-chair. "It just helps so they won't be behind from what they gained from last year."
One hundred eighty children are participating in the summer reading camp this year.
All campers go to the bookstore every day and take home five books every day of the camp.
