Duct tape prom could mean scholarships for 2 East Texans

HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) -

By Jamey Boyum - email

HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - As soon as they heard about it, Robin Waggoner and Dustin Thomas got stuck on an idea they just could not peel out of their heads. Make their prom gear out of duct tape for a shot at a scholarship. Turns out, it was a bit of a sticky situation.

"I think we spent at least 150 hours," said Dustin Thomas.

150 hours on each outfit. Duct tape is pretty cheap, though. They probably did not get stuck with a big bill, right?

"[The] rough estimate [is] around $300," said Waggoner.

"At first people thought that they were just plain dresses and suits," said Waggoner. "Then, they got closer and they were like, 'Oh my goodness!' Then, they asked us who made them and we were like, 'We did!' Some of the people didn't believe us that we made them but it was just us two."

They were not the only ones who were impressed. Their outfits were stuck in the top 10 at www.stuckatprom.com, where you can go and stick in your vote. If they stick with it for a few more weeks, they could roll away with the top prize: $3,000 each for college. Their high school gets $3,000, too.

Robin and Dustin have one last message for everyone.

"Vote us!"

They are saying, don't be tacky. Log in and vote.

They are the only Texans in the top 10. Second and third place are awarded with $2,000 and $1,000 scholarships, respectively.

For the most part 7-on-7 can be a fair indicator of how well a team is shaping up. Do they need a lot or a little work. Unless you're the Longview Lobos.  The Lobos have always been so strong at the run game, that they could have a terrible 7-on-7 season and still come out dominating on Friday nights.  But what would happen, if the Lobos got balanced?  Well District 11-6A better start prepping, because for the first time since 2013 the Lobos have a stable pass ga...More >>
