RICHMOND, TX (KLTV) -

RICHMOND, TX (KLTV) - A small Texas town has had the same mayor for more than 60 years, and he is running for re-election.

Hilmar G. Moore has been mayor of Richmond since 1949. In May he will be on the ballot for the 30th time.

Moore's family settled in Texas in the 1800s as cattle ranchers. His grandfather was a congressman, his father was a two-term mayor.

When asked by the rotary to fill an unexpired two-year mayoral term, his father gave him some lasting advice.

"He said, 'If you have any idea of pleasing all the people, save yourself. It cannot be done. But, if you want to do the most good for the most people with the dollars you have, it's a great experience,'" said Moore, quoting his father. "It's been a great experience and a lot of fun."

Moore is running unopposed on May 9. He will turn 90 this July.
