TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - You know there's talent in the area when the head coach of the Texas Longhorns comes to town. Mack Brown was all over East Texas Monday as national signing day is a little over a week away.
Brown's job never ends, as just a few weeks ago he was coaching in the national championship. Brown said he was disappointed for his seniors, but there's no time to sulk. The Longhorns must reload with new talent. East Texas has been kind to Brown and his program.
"If you look at East Texas, we've got some great players on our team right now from this part of the country," said Brown. "And we'll continue to recruit the schools here. The coaches do a great job. There's tough kids in the eastern part of the state. These teams now, we talk about the Big 12 being a tough league, there's tough league's up and down the highways in East Texas."
Brown is not allowed to talk about kids he's recruiting, but five East Texans have already committed to the Longhorns. The list includes John Tyler Defensive Tackle Ashton Dorsey, Sulphur Springs Defensive Back Bryant Jackson, Lufkin Defensive Tackle Carrington Byndom, Daingerfield Wide Receiver Chris Jones and Cayuga Running Back Traylon Shead.
National signing day is Wednesday, February 3rd.
