SHERMAN, Texas (AP) - A jury in Sherman convicted a woman in the 2008 shooting death of her ex-husband and decided she must serve an 80-year prison term.
Patricia McMillion (MIL'-yon) was convicted Wednesday of murder in last June's slaying of 53-year-old Kenneth James McMillion. His bound body was found in a canal in Grand Chenier (shu-NEER'), La.
The defense claimed the victim had abused Patricia McMillion and the case was self defense.
Prosecutors say 49-year-old Patricia McMillion killed her ex-spouse because she was being evicted by him from the house the couple once shared.
A man identified by investigators as Patricia McMillion's boyfriend, 61-year-old Harrold Ray Ballard of Whitewright, faces trial later on a charge of tampering with physical evidence.
