TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Fred Perry celebrated his 104th birthday on Tuesday, surrounded by family and friends at the Petal Hill Nursing Home in Tyler.
Perry turned 104 on April 15, and credits his long life to the Golden Rule.
“Treat other people the way I want people to treat me,” said Perry.
“He’s a good person, he’s compassionate, loving and kind,” said Horace Perry, Fred’s son. “He likes being outside; fishing and hunting.”
Perry has five children, 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Patricia Crowder, the director of nursing at Petal Hill, said Perry is important to their community because he shows what having a strong relationship with God can do.
“If you keep trusting in Him, he’s going to bless you to see over the 70 you were promised,” said Crowder. “If you keep holding tight and holding your faith, you can be 104 and be in as good of shape as he is.”
