SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Sheriff’s Office said a Flint man was arrested after he forced his way into a home and kidnapped a juvenile.
According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday morning, April 16 at 12:38 a.m. Smith County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the 1700 block of CR 1182 in Flint regarding a burglary of a residence in progress.
The female caller advised that Kody Rasmussen was attempting to force entry into her home and kidnap her juvenile daughter. While responding to the location, Deputies were informed that Rasmussen had made entry into the residence, assaulted the mother and forcibly removed the female juvenile. A vehicle description was given as the suspect fled the area with the juvenile.
The sheriff’s office said a Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety was in the area monitoring the radio traffic and observed the suspect vehicle. A short pursuit ensued before the suspect wrecked his vehicle at the intersection of CR 1170 and Lakeway Harbor Drive. The suspect fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by the Trooper. The juvenile was also recovered, unharmed, at this same location.
Kody Rasmussen, 19, of Flint, was taken into custody at the scene. He was transported to the Smith County Jail where he was charged with Burglary of a Habitation Intend to Commit other Felony, Kidnapping, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, No Driver’s License and No Insurance. Bonds totaling $120,561 were set by Pct. #2 Justice of the Peace Andy Dunklin.
