TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler’s first ‘Freedom to Famine’ brunch honoring community freedom fighters was held Saturday morning.

The event’s keynote speaker was 16-year-old Haley Taylor Schlitz.

Schlitz is a senior at Texas Women’s University and will be attending Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law in the fall.

At 16, Schlitz has an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree and was accepted into nine different ivy-league law schools.

Schlitz said she was honored to be able to speak in front of and thank those who paved the way for her.

“I thank them for their support, for them giving back to the community, for them helping future generations, like my generation, to open doors and opportunities," said Schlitz.

Those who hosted the event said they hope it becomes a yearly celebration.
