TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Mr. T has moved to Tyler, and the students at a local school are elated.

Mr. T the tortoise, that is, not the actor by the same name. Mr. T is from southern Africa and has been living in the U.S. for several years. His previous residence was at Stephen F. Austin University.

Now he’ll live in a specially designed tortoise habitat at All Saints. The habitat was constructed at the school’s Thomas Family Outdoor Learning Center, after having been designed by students. The 11-year-old tortoise can live there for many years, his new caretakers hope. Tortoises can live to be 100 years old, they say. They add that he weighs 120 pounds and can reach up to 200 pounds.

“They think it’s incredible to know that their children’s children will still be able to know and to care for our new friend the tortoise,” said Mike Cobb, Head of All Saints Episcopal School.
