Crews continue to clean up scene of train derailment in Upshur County

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - UPDATE: Union Pacific said as of 3 pm, only two railroad cars remained to be cleared at the scene of a train derailment near Big Sandy in Upshur County.

Union Pacific said crews are now in the process of making repairs to the tracks.

Crews are continuing to clean up the scene of a train derailment that happened Friday in Upshur County.

The derailment happened around 7 p.m. Friday near the area of Highway 155 and Big Sandy Creek north of Big Sandy.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office said it was reported that 14 rail cars derailed, but no injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s office said a hazmat team was also on the scene of the derailment and no leaks of hazardous material was detected from the derailed cars.

The sheriff’s office said due to the remote location of the derailment, Union Pacific is trying to find the best route to get their equipment into the derailment site.
