MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) - East Texas police are on the hunt for a man they say has bilked victims out of tens of thousands of dollars through bad checks.
Mount Pleasant police say John Granger has passed about $85,000 worth of hot checks at several East Texas businesses.
Police say he hit several auto dealerships, buying several vehicles, and is believed to be driving a new truck he purchased with a stolen check from another community.
Police believe Granger is not done yet.
“An auto dealership here in town alerted us to a fraudulent check being passed with no funds. We recovered the vehicle from that and then it just seemed to explode from there. This is a substantial amount, somebody’s going to have to fork over that money. We need to get Mr. Granger,” said Mount Pleasant Police Detective Natalio Palma.
Police say Granger is also suspected of writing hot checks in Marshall, Omaha, Pittsburg, Texarkana and Gilmer.
