MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) - UPDATE: DPS has released more information on a wreck that killed two people Saturday.
According to DPS, at approximately 1:09 AM, troopers responded to a one vehicle fatal crash on SH-43, two miles south of the city of Marshall in Harrison County.
DPS said preliminary crash reporting indicates that the driver of a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria, Latavion Demon Jackson, 18, of Marshall was traveling north on SH-43 at an unsafe speed on the wet roadway. The vehicle hydroplaned and traveled off the roadway where it struck a tree with its back right.
DPS said the driver was transported to LSU Medical in Shreveport in serious condition. A passenger, identified as Derrick Lamon Bennet, 17, of Marshall, was transported to Christus Good Shepherd - Marshall in critical condition where he later died.
DPS said another passenger, identified as a 16 year-old male, was transported to Christus Good Shepherd - Marshall in stable condition. Another passenger, identified as a 16 year-old male was pronounced at the scene by Judge Clarice Watkins.
DPS said preliminary information shows none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
PREVIOUS STORY: One person died after a vehicle hit a tree in Marshall early Saturday.
According to Marshall Fire Chief Reggie Cooper, at 1:12 a.m. Marshall Fire and EMS were dispatched to 43 South near Grangeway.
The call was originally dispatched as a two vehicle accident. When police units arrived only 1 vehicle was involved.
Marshall Fire said the 4 door passenger car had left the road and struck a tree. The Jaws of Life were used to remove four trapped occupants from the vehicle.
Two were taken to Marshall hospital and one was taken to LSU by Marshall EMS, with potentially serious injuries. The Fire Chief said one man was dead at the scene.
The status of the people taken to the hospital is currently unknown. DPS is investigating the accident.
