DPS: One killed in Rusk County accident

RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Texas Department of Public Safety said one person was killed after an accident in Rusk County.

According to DPS, at 7:18 AM Friday, Troopers responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on US-79 in Rusk County, ten miles south of the city of Henderson.

Preliminary crash investigation revealed that the driver of a 2004 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi trailer, Adrian Ramon Roland, 48, of Jacksonville was traveling northeast on US-79 approaching the intersection of FM-1798.

DPS said the driver of a 2014 Ford Taurus, Lajuan Fisher Rice, 65, of Henderson was stopped northbound on FM-1798 then attempted to cross US-79 onto SH-42. Rice traveled into the path of the truck tractor and was struck.

DPS said Rice was transported to Christus Mother Francis in Tyler where she later died. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
