Texas representative officially files Sam’s Law; bill would require seizure response training for teachers
An East Texas legislator plans to file a bill in Austin that will provide training for educators on how to respond if a person has a seizure while in school.

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - An East Texas legislator has now filed a bill that aims to train educators on how to respond if a person has a seizure while in school.

Rep. Travis Clardy, who authored the bill, officially filed the bill Tuesday.

Sam’s Law would ensure seizure education and first aid training for employees in Texas public schools who have contact with children. It would require teachers to take an online course effective Dec. 1, 2019.

The bill is named in honor of Samantha Watkins, a Kilgore ISD student who died in December 2016.
