East Texas School District Selling History to Make Way for Renovations

WINONA, TX (KLTV) - An east Texas school district is having a giant yard sale; selling history to make way for a bright future.

Some lockers for sale sat in the hallways on the very first day of school in Winona, back in 1981. "They have already run its course for what they do and it’s time to upgrade, " facility director Ronnie Marsh says.

The word utopia is carved in an old desk, a quality, administrators says they’re looking for in their newly upgraded facility.

“We’re going to be putting six more classrooms in here and then renovating these other classrooms in this wing over here, renovating new ceilings, new lights, paint, new walls, the whole nine yards,” Marsh says.

The entire project is expected to cost $2.5 million.

“We feel like we are going to start growing, we have been in the last several years, so we’re just getting ready,” Marsh says.

There’s a sense of nostalgia as parts of history are being sold; old football helmets, textbooks, and decade’s worth of sports trophies.

“Desks are $5, we have teacher desks for $25, a set of lockers, $75,” Marsh says.

The money raised from the yard sale will be used to purchase new equipment for the new classrooms.

"It goes back into our fund balance and then we can use that money for other things of course,” Marsh says.

The sale will begin on Friday, December 14th, 2018 at 8:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. And again, on Saturday, December 15th, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The location of the sale is at Winona Middle School. Items must be picked up on site, no deliveries will be made.
