‘Do not use’ order lifted Friday, but Craft-Turney customers say they were never notified

CHEROKEE CO., TX (KLTV) - The ‘do not use’ order has finally been lifted for the remaining area served by the Craft-Turney Water Supply Corporation. However, several residents in the affected area outside of Jacksonville say their water has not been turned back on.

“No phone call, no letter, still have had no contact from the initial contamination,” Craft-Turney customer Doug Gowin says. Gowin was told by his son that his water was contaminated. His son learned about it through social media. “Nor did I have any official, personal notification of it being cleared of the contamination in my area,” Gowin says.

This is a concern for several Craft-Turney customers.

Something in the Water: Craft-Turney timeline of events

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality lifted the do not use order on Friday.

The announcement read, "an evaluation of the results for these samples indicate that though the chlorothalonil is still present at low levels in this area, the levels detected are well below those that would pose a health concern. "

At a public meeting held last Monday, Craft-Turney customers complained about health issues they were experiencing after using the contaminated water.

“I would certainly be very surprised if there was not some sort of litigation,” Gowin says.

The investigation by TCEQ is ongoing.
