TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler Police arrested a man Tuesday after they say he barricaded himself in a van that wasn’t his.
According to a press release, at about 7:45 PM, Tyler Police officers were patrolling the Fair Plaza Parking Garage located at Elm and Broadway.
The press release said officers located a Hispanic man loitering in the garage. They began to make contact when he decided to barricade himself in a minivan.
Police say he then covered the windows so officers could not see inside. They gave commands for him to exit the vehicle and he refused to obey officer’s commands.
Tyler Police also made contact with the owner of the van and learned that they did not know the person inside of their van.
The press release said officers continued to communicate with the man for a little over one hour before approaching the vehicle. Officers then approached, broke out a window, and were able to get him out of the van safely.
They said the suspect did not have any weapons and no one was injured.
The suspect is currently identified as 57-year old Rocky Lasiter. Tyler Police said he had earlier identified himself as Tony Garcia.
He has been charged with criminal trespass and failure to identify and is in the Smith County Jail.
