TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The East Texas Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America have selected the 2018 recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Good Turn Award.
Jeff Austin III, vice chairman of Austin Bank NA and a commissioner of the Texas Department of Transportation was selected as the Distiguished Citizen Good Turn 2018 Recipient. According to the East Texas Area Council, Austin is also a a former scoutmaster and board president for the East Texas Area Council, Boy Scouts, a board member and past chairman of Texas Bankers Association, and an executive committee member and past director of the Texas Lyceum.
The East Texas Council said the following in a press release announcing Austin’s selection:
The Boy Scouts of America are committed to instilling in youth the values of the Scout Oath and Law, including a duty to God and Country, an obligation to help other people at all times and the ethical and moral foundation of trustworthiness and kindness.
Jeff Austin III is a testament to those values. As a public servant, community investor, businessman, Scout leader and father, Mr. Austin is the type of leader that Scouting seeks to develop. Mr. Austin’s grandfather, Jeff Austin Sr., was the third recipient of the award which dates back to 1992.
Austin will be awarded at a luncheon on Oct. 23 at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will be hosted at the Crosswalk at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.
Previous participants of the award include Dr. Rod Mabry, Rep. Louis Gohmert and Gov. Rick and Anita Perry.
