Smith County Sheriff: Flint man stabbed, killed by son

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Sheriff’s Office said a man died after he was stabbed by his son Sunday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, they received a 911 call from a home in the 11200 block of County Road 1232 in Flint around 3:05 a.m. Sunday morning.

They said the caller told them that 46-year old Patrick Crowder Sr. had been stabbed by his 22-year old son, Patrick Crowder Jr. during an argument.

The sheriff’s office said witnesses at the scene said the two had been in an argument about whether Patrick Crowder Jr. was going to church Sunday morning.

The argument escalated and Patrick Crowder Jr. allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his father who died as a result.

Smith County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Detectives and Crime Scene were dispatched to the scene.

The sheriff’s office said an arrest warrant was issued by the 114th State District Judge Christi Kennedy, charging Patrick Crowder Jr. with murder and bond was recommended at $500,000.

Patrick Crowder Jr. remains in the Smith County Jail at this time.

The sheriff’s office said a search warrant affidavit was also prepared and presented to Judge Kennedy for the search of the residence where the incident occurred. The scene was processed and all pertinent evidence was collected.

Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 James Cowart held an inquest at the scene and ordered an autopsy which will be performed at Forensic Medical in Tyler. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
