ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - A pedestrian was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver in Athens Thursday night.

According to the Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill, 59-year-old David Huckabee, of Athens, was struck by a vehicle while he was attempting to cross the street in the 800 block of West Tyler Street.

Huckabee was a Brookshire’s employee, according to Hill.

Hill reported that at about 7:35 p.m., Huckabee was pushing a bicycle across Tyler Street when he was struck by a 2012 Ford pickup traveling westbound. He was reportedly thrown to the ground and later was transported to the hospital. Huckabee was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Hill.

Hill said the driver of the Ford pickup, identified as Jared Snyder, 28, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police obtained a search warrant to collect a blood sample from Snyder.

Synder was then arrested and booked into the Henderson County jail for intoxicated manslaughter.
