UPDATE: A former Arp school counselor who was accused of having an improper relationship with a student has been found guilty of sexual assault of a child and sentenced to five years in prison. Barbara Orpined, 32, will also be required to register as a sex offender. Three cases are still pending.
Barbara Orpineda, 32, a former Arp Independent School District counselor, was arrested on Oct. 25, 2017.
She was convicted following a two-day trial.
According to Arp ISD officials, they received allegations against Orpineda on Oct. 11. They then opened an investigation, contacted the Arp police and filed a Child Protective Services report.
On the first day of the trial, the victims as well as their mothers testified in court. Witness testimony is expected to continue in court on Wednesday.
Sentencing is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon.
