DPS: 1 dead after vehicle strikes dog, rolls down embankment
A driver was killed in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday after their vehicle rolled down an embankment, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Gregg County, TX (KLTV) - A driver was killed in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday after their vehicle rolled down an embankment, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Wednesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety released a statement on the crash:

Yesterday at approximately 5:42 AM, Troopers responded to a one vehicle fatal crash on IH-20 (mile marker 586) one mile east of the city of Kilgore in Gregg County. Preliminary crash investigation revealed that the driver of a 2005 Ford Ranger, Javier Altamirano Olvera, 55, of Tyler was traveling east on IH-20 in the outside lane when the vehicle struck a dog in the roadway and swerved to the right, leaving the roadway. The vehicle entered a side skid and began rolling right down the embankment coming to rest upside down in the south side bar ditch. Olvera was pronounced at the scene by Judge Talyna Carlson and was transported to Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
