HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - One person died after a vehicle hydroplaned and was struck by a truck-tractor traveling in the opposite direction in Harrison County.
According to the Department of Public Saftey, their troopers responded Tuesday afternoon to a fatal two-vehicle wreck on State Highway 43, nine miles south of Marshall.
DPS' preliminary crash investigation indicate that a 2005 Jeep Liberty was traveling north at an unsafe speed on State Highway 43 when the vehicle began to hydroplane and crossed into the southbound lane of traffic. According to DPS, the Jeep was then struck by a 2006 Freightliner truck-tractor and towed trailer traveling southbound.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as 35-year-old Brandi Mashai Kirkwood, of Tatum, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, Steven L. Whetten, 62, of Syracuse, IN, was treated and released at the scene, according to DPS.
DPS reports the crash remains under investigation.
