Until noon Friday, the police were actively searching a wooded area near Woodlawn Street, a few blocks away from where an armed robbery reportedly occurred.

A man reportedly robbed a woman at gun point while she was in her driveway before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim described the man as a white male, wearing dark clothing, a dark mask and carrying a long rifle with a flashlight on the stock. Police say they are searching for any evidence that the person or persons responsible might have been using the woods as as a possible “staging area.”

The police advised residents to stay indoors while they searched. As of midnight, they reported the police alert on Bean Avenue was cleared.

As of this time, the suspect has not been found.

Based on witness accounts, Kilgore police believe that there were possibly two suspects involved. It was reported police received two different descriptions of the possible suspect or suspects.

They also believe that the robbery was possibly part of an organized effort. Police did not report whether they had found any evidence in the woods to corroborate that.
