TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Students from all over Texas were busy washing and blow-drying their cattle in preparation for the upcoming East Texas State fair Livestock Junior Beef Heifer Show Thursday morning.
The kids are in competition for ribbons and cash prizes in addition for grades in their agriculture classes at school. It takes a lot of hard work to get the animals ready to show.
“Today, , students will get the beds ready for the cattle to stay in,” said Denise Weaver, the director of livestock for the East Texas State Fair. 'They will be washing their cattle, blow drying, and getting them ready for the show tomorrow."
In all, about 129 FFA and 4-H students will be taking part in the show, They will show 553 junior heifers over the course of Friday and Saturday.
Weaver said the students will be competing for blue. red, or green ribbons for first, second, and third place and a cash prize.
