Chandler man arrested for public intoxication after car crashed into church wall

CHANDLER, TX (KLTV) -A Chandler church took severe damage to several air-conditioner units after a car crashed into the building Monday night.

Chandler police arrested Colby Elkins Tompkins, 20, on a charge of public intoxication.

Chief Kalon Rollins said it is believed Tompkins ran an intersection at FM 2010 and Broad Street Monday evening and drove through the First Assembly of God parking lot and into a brick wall which protected the air-conditioning units.

Photos from the scene show damage to several units.

Rollins said when officers arrived, Tompkins was not in the car and did not admit to being the driver, which kept officers from charging him with DWI.

“Nobody saw him in the car and so we couldn’t file that charge yet,” Rollins said. “Hopefully after more investigating we’ll be able to do that.”
